POLENERGIA has started its activity in the electric energy market in 2000. It was formed by three companies: E.ON Energie AG (1/3), Kulczyk Holding SA (1/3), and PSE SA (1/3), with share capital amounting to PLN 999.000. As the company developed, the shareholding structure changed in 2003. Kulczyk Holding SA took over the shares of E.ON Energie AG and PSE-ELECTRA SA. At present there are two shareholders of POLENERGIA SA: KULCZYK HOLDING SA, which holds 99% shares and Artur Zdybicki, whose shares represent not more than one percent. The share capital amounts to 58.944.000 PLN.

Business activity areas: At the beginning, the company was involved in trading electric energy on the international and national markets. Next, the company started the distribution of energy to commercial customers, who had the possibility to choose suppliers, as well as to individual customers. For individual customers, electricity is distributed in the areas where the company has its own network infrastructure. These areas are mainly housing estates. 
 

From 2005 the company has broadened its offer, and expanded into the market of natural gas energy. Customers from the sector of industry are supplied with natural gas via the network infrastructure of the company. The network infrastructure for gas transmission is subject to further development carried out by the company. During the last two years, the operating areas of the company have involved:

• distribution of electric energy to business and individual customers, with the use of the company’s own network infrastructure,
• distribution of fuel gas to business clients, with the use of the company’s own gas pipeline network,
• electric energy supply via third party access policies granting access to use the network facilities owned by other companies,
• wholesale electric energy trading,
• generating electricity from the landfill gas,
• trading property rights acquired from electric energy generation from renewable energy sources and electric energy generated in association with heat generation.
   

At present there are five companies that form POLENERGIA Group:

• POLENERGIA SA – the holding company. The scope of its operation includes: ownership supervision, expansion of the company into new business areas, and the property rights trading.
• POLENERGIA Dystrybucja Sp. z o.o. – electricity distribution and sale on the basis of energy infrastructure built or acquired by the company.
• POLENERGIA Kogeneracja Sp. z o.o. – construction of gas infrastructure and infrastructure  enabling cogeneration of electrical and thermal energy, sale of electricity generated, distribution of natural gas on the basis of pipeline infrastructure built or acquired by the company.
• POLENERGIA Biogaz Sp. z o.o. – construction of biogas generation infrastructure, generating electricity and thermal energy from natural resources, especially biogas and landfill gas.
• POLENERGIA Wiatr Sp. z o.o. – construction of facilities allowing to generate energy on the basis of wind power (wind farms).
