Nearby, the topside for Bałtyk 2 is also in place. Both substation topsides, each weighing approximately 3,700 tonnes, are currently undergoing outfitting works and will be transported offshore in line with the installation schedule.
At the same time, production and assembly of transition pieces are progressing. These are among the most critical and technically demanding structural components of offshore wind farms, connecting the foundations with the wind turbines. Over 60 such units have already been assembled at the Vlissingen yard, each standing around 17 meters tall and weighing close to 400 tonnes. The first transition pieces will soon be transported to the Baltic Sea, where – together with monopiles – they will be among the first components installed offshore.
In both the topsides and transition pieces, Polish companies and industrial facilities play a significant role in manufacturing, outfitting, and integration processes, supplying steel structures, auxiliary systems, and technical solutions. The contribution of local content is a key element in the execution of the Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 projects.
The Bałtyk 2 and Bałtyk 3 offshore wind farms, developed by Equinor and Polenergia, will consist of 100 wind turbines with a total capacity of 1,440 MW. First power generation is planned for 2027, with full commercial operation expected in 2028.
