Equinor and Polenergia support the biodiversity of lakes in the Słowiński National Park

Słowiński National Park, in cooperation with Equinor and Polenergia, has carried out a fish stocking program for Lakes Łebsko and Gardno. As part of the initiative, 260,000 young pike-perch were released into the lakes to help strengthen the balance of the aquatic ecosystems. This is another example of the companies’ commitment to protecting biodiversity.

Thanks to the cooperation between Equinor, Polenergia, and the Słowiński National Park, the pike-perch population has been strengthened in two lakes in the Pomeranian region. A total of 260,000 young fish were introduced: 200,000 into Lake Łebsko and 60,000 into Lake Gardno. The entire process was overseen by staff from the Aquatic Ecosystem Protection Team.

Our cooperation has a real impact on preserving biological diversity and the quality of lake waters. Increasing the pike-perch population improves interspecies balance and supports the trophic structure of the reservoirs, which contributes to better water quality and clarity. These efforts benefit the entire ecosystem, including valuable fish species such as the endemic Łebsko whitefish, which occurs only in Lake Łebsko.

Conservation Officer of the Protected Area, Słowiński National Park

The cooperation between Equinor, Polenergia, and the Słowiński National Park is another initiative that confirms the companies’ commitment to sustainable development.

As we carry out offshore wind farm projects in the Baltic Sea, we have placed strong emphasis from the very beginning on respecting nature and taking actions to preserve the environmental value of the region. The fish stocking initiative in the lakes near Łeba and Ustka aligns perfectly with our strategy of supporting biodiversity and protecting local ecosystems.

Marta Porzuczek

Director of Sustainable Development at Polenergia

Equinor and Polenergia have been committed to environmental protection for years, treating sustainable development as an integral part of their operations.

We fully support the biodiversity program for Lakes Gardno and Łebsko, implemented in cooperation with the Słowiński National Park. For us, it is an expression of care for ecosystem integrity and responsibility toward our surroundings. We focus not only on symbolic gestures but on long-term and well-thought-out initiatives that support the ecological balance of the regions in which we operate.

Stakeholder Manager at Equinor Poland

Bałtyk 1, 2, and 3 offshore wind farm projects are being carried out with a strong focus on both marine and land ecosystems. As part of preparations for the construction phase, Equinor and Polenergia conducted extensive pre-investment studies, including environmental, geological, and geotechnical research.

Based on these, they planned solutions aimed at minimizing the impact of the offshore wind farms on birds, marine mammals, and fish native to the Baltic Sea region—for example, by creating bird migration corridors or using bubble curtains to reduce noise and vibrations during construction.

The cooperation with the Słowiński National Park is a good example of a partnership-based approach to nature conservation and a confirmation that modern energy development can—and should—go hand in hand with care for the ecosystems surrounding these investments.
