Polenergia’s Wind Auction Success

Polenergia’s Wind Auction Success

Polenergia S.A. (“Polenergia”), the largest Polish private and vertically integrated energy group, won the auction for new large onshore wind power plants. The Group’s three projects will receive 15-year support, which means that the Company stands a chance of increasing the installed capacity in wind energy from the present-day 250 MW up to 436 MW, i.e. by more than 74%.

The largest project with a capacity of 121 MW which received support as part of the auction system is the Dębsk Wind Farm. It constitutes almost a half of the currently installed onshore capacity of Polenergia’s wind farms. The investment is going to be located in the area of the Żuromin and Kuczbork Osada commune. It will consist of 55 turbines, whereas the annual production of electricity will approximate 346 GWh. The Kostomłoty Wind Farm, which also received the guaranteed 15-year support, will be located in the Lower Silesia Province. It will consist of 9 turbines with the total capacity of 27 MW. The estimated annual production will reach approx. 82 GWh. Another project that also won the auction is the Szymankowo Wind Farm with the capacity of 38 MW and the total annual production of 120 GWh.

In total, the capacity of Polenergia’s new wind farms that won the December auction is 186 MW, whereas their total production is 548 GWh, which corresponds to the annual demand for electricity of as many as 274,000 households. Completion of the projects will prevent emission of pollution on a level of even 475,000 tons of CO2, 448 tons of SO2, 451 tons of NOx, 158 tons of CO and 30 tons of PM. The price of energy guaranteed by the 15-year agreement is within the range of PLN 162.83 MWh to PLN 233.29 MWh.

The success at the auction spells good news for the shareholders of Polenergia; it means that the Group is strongly increasing its business engagement in the segment that currently has record results. We have already decided to perform the Szymankowo Wind Farm project, whereas the auction that we won will additionally allow us to maximise its profitability. Now, we are starting the construction of the huge Dębsk Wind Farm project and the Kostomłoty Wind Farm project which received guaranteed support in the auction system. In the course of the next three years, these three investments will increase Polenergia’s capacity by 186 MW of new wind capacity. In comparison to what we have now, it means an impressive increase by 74% up to 436 MW. We are consistently and efficiently building a portfolio based on safe and commercial wind projects

Michał Michalski

President of the Management Board of Polenergia.

Positive attitude of banks to the market of renewable energy and the adopted assumptions with respect to trends of electricity prices on the Polish market, as well as continually dropping costs of energy generation in onshore wind farms are of key significance to the performance of all new projects of the Group. Polenergia’s goal is to implement the investments that guarantee maximisation of return on the invested capital.
